Education
When
we consider education, our thoughts inevitably turn to books. While
the exhibit
focuses on the concept of ‘book’ as art project, the process of this
exploration proved to be a highly valuable learning experience for
many people. And, like Susan Vida Judah’s Private and Personal mezuzoth,
the
theme stretches from the past, embracing the future. An educational
workshop at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design many years
ago gave the idea of book making to George Fry. Subsequently, as
the idea blossomed, the artists involved in the project learned from one
another.
The exhibit became
part of a learning process for the children attending the summer
workshops at the Saint John Arts Centre, and the docents,
(Emily Le Mesurier, Emily Saab, Olivia McNair, and Andrew Hicks),
art students themselves, learned from meeting the artists and
being directly
involved with the installation and interpretation of the exhibit.
